Our TK students had a fun and educational visit from the St. Helena Fire Department, where they learned all about the important work of community helpers. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with local heroes and explore how they contribute to our community. SHPS is excited to welcome two student teachers from Pacific Union College who will be joining Mrs. White and Mrs. Ledesma’s classrooms. We are grateful for this partnership with our local university and thankful to our teachers for sharing their expertise with the next generation of educators.
We’re also launching three social skills playgroups at SHPS! With many students spending more time on technology at home, these unstructured playgroups provide valuable opportunities for social interaction and play. Special thanks to our new Youth Mentor from UpValley Family Center and Mr. Samuel from RLS for helping to make this program possible.

Last week, our 4th grade students enjoyed an exciting and unforgettable field trip to Sacramento, bringing their learning about California history and state government to life. Students began the day at the California State Capitol, where they explored the heart of state government and even watched a real bill being voted on—an incredible opportunity to see democracy in action. The trip continued at the California State Railroad Museum, where students learned how the transcontinental railroad transformed transportation, trade, and daily life in California. At the California History Museum, students participated in hands-on learning by panning for gold, helping them connect to the Gold Rush era and better understand the experiences of early settlers. This field trip was a meaningful extension of our 4th grade social studies curriculum, and we are so proud of our students for their curiosity, enthusiasm, and excellent behavior throughout the day!

On January 16, St. Helena High School hosted its quarterly Eligibility Luncheon, generously supported by the SHHS Parent Group. Trustees, District Administration, and Access Mentors celebrated 21 students who achieved academic eligibility for the third quarter—one of the largest groups recognized. Principal Scinto commended students for their commitment to growth and thanked mentors for their continued support. Students and staff wrapped up the celebration by sharing pizza together.
On January 21, SHHS FFA Advisors Randy Mendes, Judy Aschwanden, and Lindsay Swickard, along with FFA Officers and the Ag Leadership class, hosted the annual 25th Degree & Proficiency Awards Ceremony. The evening honored students for excellence in agricultural education, leadership, and academics, including Greenhand and Chapter Degrees, Proficiency and Agriscience Awards, State Degrees, and recognition of 86 students earning a 3.5 GPA or higher. Several students were also celebrated for national-level achievements, highlighting the strength of SHHS’s agricultural program.

We are proud to celebrate Kevin Quintero, an 11th-grade student, who was named Napa Valley Idol of 2026 at this year’s competition held at the Napa Valley College Performing Arts Center. Kevin, a talented singer and pianist who has been part of our district since 7th grade, delivered a standout performance of Interstellar by Hans Zimmer and advanced to the finals, earning the top honor. This marks the second consecutive year a student from our school has won Napa Valley Idol, following Myka Suhr’s win in 2025. We are thrilled to see our students continue to shine and represent our district with excellence.

Saints athletics saw a mix of challenges and standout moments as teams returned from break and pushed into a critical stretch of the winter season. Girls’ basketball continued its strong run, earning key league victories and staying in contention behind consistent scoring from junior forward Ella Lindquist, who recorded multiple 20-point performances, including a 23-point outing at Fort Bragg. The team now sits in a three-way tie for second place in league play.
Boys’ basketball battled through a tough schedule, bouncing back with a road win at Lower Lake and relying on strong team defense to keep games competitive, including holding Middletown to just 45 points. Hunter Menegon, Charlie Blaum, and Tristan Mowe led scoring efforts in a much-needed league win.
The wrestling program delivered several highlights, earning winning records in league duals and celebrating Senior Night with victories against Cloverdale and Credo. Freshmen Johnny Viader, Lucian Jambois, Sig Peterson, Wallace Hardin, and Max Waller all picked up key wins. On the girls’ side, the Hernandez twins shined at the Napa Valley Girls Tournament, with Anakarla Hernandez capturing a championship with a perfect 6-0 record, including five pins.
On the pitch, boys’ soccer earned its first win of the season against John Swett, led by Eric Torres with two goals, while continuing to show growth against top competition. Girls’ soccer added a dominant 8-0 victory over John Swett, highlighted by a hat trick from freshman Bo Henquet, and strong defensive performances throughout the week.
As league play ramps up, Saints teams head into an important stretch of home contests and matchups that will shape the remainder of the season. Go Saints!

RLS girls’ volleyball had an outstanding season, with both the 7th and 8th grade teams winning the league championship and finishing with an impressive 9–1 record. The 8th grade team was led by Coach Vicki, while the 7th grade team thrived under the leadership of new head coach Jeanne Morrill, a dedicated RLS parent. Congratulations to our student-athletes and coaches on a fantastic season!
Boys’ basketball showed strong effort and competitiveness throughout January. While the teams did not come away with wins, they battled hard in every matchup and continued to grow as a group.
Coed wrestling is off to a promising start, with more than 20 students joining the team this season. Practices are underway, and the team will compete in their first official meet on January 29 at Kenilworth. We’re excited to see this program continue to grow. Go Blue Devils!
